Should Christians Use Sex Toys?
This seems to be a huge issue in today's society. From a purely religious perspective the answer would at first appear to be a very simple NO. Upon closer examination the question becomes much more complicated.
For Christians, first and foremost is the concept of monogamy. Well, sex toys do not have to interfere with the concept of monogamy. So, perhaps they are ok. But to bring even conversation about sex up in a Christian environment makes most people in the room squirm and probably change the subject.
Experiencing a satisfying sex life makes you more likely to stay monogamous. Experimenting with sex toys leads to a more fulfilling and satisfying sex life. Couple that use sex toys are more likely to enjoy sex and to have sex more often. It would seem logical that those wanting their marriage to last would welcome sex toys with open arms. Unfortunately just the opposite is true.
When Masters and Johnson first pioneered the groundbreaking sex survey beginning in 1957 one of the main things that they discovered was that the general public does NOT want to talk about their sex life. One on one people might, in a private setting, be willing to discuss intimate details. In a crowded room of strangers it is a subject that is often laughed about but hardly ever discussed in detail. In churches it is even more carefully discussed. Or, fearfully discussed. Women want to avoid being labeled a harlot for having any sexual desire. Men are concerned about what people will think as well. The huge discovery that came out of Master's and Johnson's research was that most women in 1957 were not experiencing orgasm. Since that discovery many books have been written on the subject. These are not the books that most good Christians feel comfortable discussing in church.
